It’s Trad Dad!

Musical groups in the 1960s had a habit of upsetting the establishment. Loud and noisy complaints; parent’s around the world rang out in a resounding cry of “TURN THAT DAMN THING DOWN!!!”

At least that’s the subject of one of my more recent fascinations. The 1962 film It’s Trad Dad, follows a group a English youths as they form their own band as a group of adults attempts to sabotage their celebrations of the latest trends in traditional jazz.

Given that 1962 is the same year that the Beatles signed to EMI and seemingly became an overnight success, it’s understandable how the dixieland revival is often forgotten in conversations of 1960s pop-music. But it’s always fun to think back at what could have been, if the ’60s were a jazz decade.
